How does a RV refrigerator differ from
a household refrigerator?

Picture this: You're in Flagstaff, Ariz., where it's 50°. You pilot your RV south and, less than three hours later, you're in Phoenix where it's 100°.

This example illustrates one of three distinct differences between your household refrigerator and a RV refrigerator, and why a RV model usually costs more. Here are those differences:

Movement - A household refrigerator is stationary, but a RV refrigerator must withstand many rigors of the road. That includes the day-in-and-day-out physical punishment, exposure to outdoor elements like dust, and dramatic changes in temperature (like the example above).
Power - A household refrigerator works only on 110-volt AC, but a RV refrigerator must be flexible, getting its power in the methods available to the RV. "Two-way" RV refrigerators are powered by 110-volt AC and LP gas - while "three-way" models also work on 12-volt DC. (Some Norcold models are available in European 220-volt, 50 Hz.)
Function - Household and RV refrigerators both work similarly within closed systems. However, a RV system uses a gravity-fed evaporator to create the heat which ultimately cools, while the home refrigerator uses a compressor.
